Economic System

  Objectives:

The purpose of the economic system is to provide a means of trade, of buying and selling, and the means by which the towns and cities in the game earn an income.

  1. Clear national objectives based on the historical and economic strengths and weaknesses of the various nations in the game.

  2. Create a fully functional strategic game, in which  towns, cities, and naval bases have the ability to levy taxes, construct additional buildings and facilities, improve existing buildings and facilities, add new colonists through population growth or immigration, build farms and plantations, search for gold, silver, iron, etc., build mines, bring in slaves or condemn prisoners to slavery, build shops and markets, establish new towns or naval bases, build forts, add cannon, recruit and train soldiers and ships' crews, commission the construction of new naval vessels, etc.

  3. Governors and Admirals, either human or NPC, charged with the strategic planning and administration of their towns, cities, and naval bases.

  4. Random events introduced to increase or expend economic resources.  These would include storm damage, bumper crops, disease, war economies, peace-time economies, etc.

  5. Merchant shipping is the transportation system that drives the economic development of the towns and cities and the strength of the naval bases.  Loss of merchant ships at sea to storms, pirates, and rival navies decreases the economic base of the towns, cities, and naval bases.

  6. Governor and Admiral administration pages for tax and resource allocation.
